On top of the brim is a shiny black and gold sticker with the Skalop logo and on the back of the cap is a rectangular patch with a squid-like emblem in white, black, and red. Both the brim and the border around the Inkling symbol change to match the color of the wearer's ink. The hat is worn at a slight angle. In Splatoon 3, the cap can be rotated to instead face backwards using the Adjust Gear feature.

Trivia
- The symbol on the cap resembles the Japanese character う (as in うに, or "sea urchin") written backwards.
- The default color scheme of the Urchins Cap (shown in the equipment icon) is similar to an alternate cap worn by the Seattle Mariners, a baseball team formerly owned by Nintendo of America. Their name also connects to the aquatic themes of Splatoon.
- The Urchins Cap was originally called "Baseball Cap", was primarily navy blue instead of black, and had Damage Up as its primary ability.
