— Inkopolis News

Inkopolis News is a live television event that provides information regarding upcoming Splatfests, updates, the current Regular Battle, Ranked Battle, and League Battle stages, and Salmon Run status.

In Splatoon, Inkopolis News is hosted by the Squid Sisters, Callie and Marie. Each time players start Splatoon and every four hours thereafter, Inkopolis News is shown.

In Splatoon 2, Inkopolis News is hosted by Off the Hook, Pearl and Marina. Each time players start Splatoon 2, Inkopolis News is shown. Unlike the first game, Inkopolis News is only shown again in a single play session if there are new Salmon Run, DLC, or Splatfest announcements.

If a player is occupied when Inkopolis News should be shown, it appears once they finish that activity. For example, if someone is playing Turf War when the news is scheduled to appear, it is shown once they complete their current match.

The hosts can be seen talking in their respective studios in both Inkopolis Plaza (second floor) and Inkopolis Square (far right near the tower). If a player looks at them for a certain period, they acknowledge the player before returning to their discussion.

In Splatoon, Callie and Marie both smile and wave.

In Splatoon 2, if the player is an Inkling, Pearl looks briefly annoyed at her conversation being interrupted before grinning and posing, and Marina nervously smiles and waves. If playing as an Octoling, Pearl notices that it is Agent 8, tells Marina, and both of them strike a pose and then laugh.

Trivia

  • In Splatoon, every four hours, a sign saying 'News update! Let's go to Callie and Marie live in the studio!' pops up and the player has to watch Inkopolis News. If they are in a multiplayer battle, it pops up after the match. If the player is in either Octo Valley or playing in the Battle Dojo, they see the sign when they exit. The announcements come every 2 hours in Splatoon 2, but only makes the player watch Off The Hook if there is a major game announcement (e.g. Salmon Run opens, game version update, and formerly for Splatfest or DLC announcements). Otherwise, it only takes the player back to the mode selection screen.
  • After defeating DJ Octavio for the first time in both games, a special Inkopolis News episode is seen, showing the return of the Great Zapfish. After this, the game's credits are shown. In Splatoon, Inkopolis Plaza shifts to nighttime for this announcement.
  • In Nasty Majesty, the ending jingle from Inkopolis News is sampled, except it now features trumpets.
