Mayo vs. Ketchup was a worldwide Splatfest event in Splatoon 2. It was announced on social media on 21 April 2020, and in-game on 1 May 2020, a day after the Splatoon 2 Special Demo 2020 started. It was a rematch of the original Mayo vs. Ketchup Splatfest from August 2017.

Details

The Mayo vs. Ketchup rematch was announced a month prior on the 21st of April 2020, exactly 9 months after the results of Chaos vs. Order, which was promoted as being Splatoon 2's final Splatfest. Although the North American Live from Squid Research Lab Tumblr described it as a "bonus one-time Splatfest", on the game's third anniversary, July 21, 2020, the Japanese Splatoon Twitter announced that in addition, three additional Splatfests were planned to be held before the end of the year. These additional Splatfests were held during the COVID-19 pandemic, giving players entertainment during lockdown. As a rematch, Off the Hook's dialog was unchanged from the original Splatfest, and thus had no in-game acknowledgement of there being new Splatfests after Chaos vs. Order. Dialog from Super Mushroom vs. Super Star suggests that the Mayo vs. Ketchup and the other two rematches were non-canonical.

The Splatfest theme is the two condiments, mayonnaise and ketchup. Unlike the original event, which was composed of three separate regional Splatfests that shared the same theme and were held on the same weekend, this Splatfest event was held worldwide and did not separate the results per region. The increased 100× Battle rates from Chaos vs. Order were still in effect for this Splatfest.

The full name of each choice was "Mayo is better than Ketchup!" and "Ketchup is better than Mayo!". The team name portion of Splatfest titles was "Mayo" and "Ketchup".

Mayo vs. Ketchup featured the first Shifty Station layout, Wayslide Cool.
