The Retro BluFocals are headgear in Splatoon 3.

They are a 2-star item produced by Emberz and come with the primary ability Intensify Action. They must first be unlocked through leveling up the Drizzle Season 2022 Catalog to level 39, then they can be purchased from Naut Couture for Cash 11,700 from SplatNet 3 Shop for Cash 17,550. They can only be ordered from another player after being unlocked.

They can also be unlocked through leveling up the Drizzle Season 2023 Catalog to level 72 as part of the Lime BlobMob Tee Outfit.

Appearance

The Retro BluFocals are round glasses with tinted lenses. The frame is gold with black temple tips. The lenses are two colors, with the top being the wearer's ink color. They slowly transition to a light blue on the bottom.

Abilities

The Retro BluFocals comes with Intensify Action as the primary ability when purchased from a shop or ordered from Murch. When purchased from SplatNet 3, it comes with any other primary ability normally available to Headgear. As a 2-star item, the Retro BluFocals comes with three additional slots for secondary abilities. The star level may be increased with Super Sea Snails for 1 (first), 1 (second), 5 (third), 10 (fourth), or 20 (fifth) Super Sea Snails per star, or by purchasing additional copies of it from Naut Couture for 10,000 (first), 30,000 (second), 50,000 (third), 100,000 (fourth), or 200,000 (fifth) Cash per star. Increasing the star level beyond 2 stars will increase the gear experience gained by a cumulative 3.333…% up to 10% additional experience at 5-star level. Since it is made by the Emberz gear brand, it has a higher chance of rolling Intensify Action and a lower chance of rolling Special Charge Up to fill its secondary ability slots.

Trivia

The photo in Frye's hand in the Big Betrayal music video, showing Big Man as Ian BGM
  • The RetroBluFocals's primary Ability (Intensify Action) matches the favored Ability of its brand (Emberz). This is likely a developer oversight; the series as a rule avoids these combinations to make achieving maximum AP more difficult.
    • The only other pieces of gear to have this distinction are the Shivery Squidkid III and Triple-Deck Specs from Splatoon 3, as well as six items unintentionally sold on SplatNet 2 with matching Abilities; see that page for more details.
  • In the official music video of Big Betrayal, a photo of Big Man assuming his "Ian BGM" identity, wearing a King Flip Mesh and Retro BluFocals, is seen in Frye's hand.
