The Base School Shoes and School Shoes + Hi Socks (known in Splatoon and Splatoon 2 as the School Shoes) are a pair of shoe items in the Splatoon series.

In Splatoon, they are a 2-star item produced by amiibo and come with the primary ability Ink Saver (Sub). They are only available from the Inkling Girl or the Splatoon 2 series Inkling Girl 2 amiibo. They cannot be ordered from another player.

In Splatoon 2, they are a 2-star item produced by amiibo and come with the primary ability Ink Saver (Sub). They are only available from the Inkling Girl amiibo. They cannot be ordered from another player.

In Splatoon 3, they are a pair of 1-star items produced by amiibo, each come with the primary ability Ink Saver (Sub). Both items are only available from the Inkling Girl amiibo. Both items cannot be ordered from another player.

Appearance

The School Shoes are a pair of shiny black loafers.

In Splatoon and Splatoon 2, if worn by girls, they also come with long, dark gray socks with a white Inkling squid icon on the sides. In Splatoon 3, both sockless base variant and the aforementioned socks variant are available as separate pieces of gear, which can be worn regardless of the wearer's style.

Splatoon

The School Shoes debuted in Splatoon at release.

Abilities

The School Shoes come with Ink Saver (Sub) as the primary ability. As a 2-star item, the School Shoes come with two additional slots for secondary abilities, which may be increased to a maximum of three slots with a Super Sea Snail or 30,000 cash for each slot. Since they are made by the amiibo gear brand, they have equal chances to roll any secondary ability.

Unlock

To unlock the School Shoes, the player must play the third set of Octo Valley missions from the Inkling Girl amiibo:

The School Shoes are received after completing the boss challenge.

School Shoes + Hi Socks

The School Shoes return in Splatoon 3's Drizzle Season 2022 in version 1.1.0. Both styles of shoes are available, regardless of the player's customization style.

Abilities

Both Base School Shoes and School Shoes + Hi Socks come with Ink Saver (Sub) as the primary ability. As both of them are 1-star items, they each come with two additional slots for secondary abilities. The star level may be increased with Super Sea Snails for 1 (first), 1 (second), 5 (third), 10 (fourth), or 20 (fifth) Super Sea Snails per star. Increasing the star level to 2 stars will add another secondary ability slot for a total of three slots. Increasing the star level beyond 2 stars will increase the gear experience gained by a cumulative 3.333…% up to 10% additional experience at 5-star level. Since both items are made by the amiibo gear brand, they each have equal chances to roll any secondary ability.

Translation notes

  1. From 素足 suashi ("barefoot" for human beings), ゲソ geso ("cuttlefish tentacles"), and 下足 geso ("footwear"). 下足 can also be read as gesoku.
  2. Can also translate to "elementary school shoes".
  3. 3.0 3.1 This is probably due to a mistranslation from Japanese.
