Trying to rewrite the Timeline page to use more understandable dates and less confusing wording, this will probably take me quite a while so excuse the mess. I'll copy paste the work I've done below into the proper page once I decide it's ready enough (If you're reading this it probably is not ready yet.)
Main goal at the moment is to change dates to be in relation to the game they pertain to, rather than either being written relative to only Splatoon 3 or updated in real time(???) as they seem to have been. Also a lot of [Citation needed].
After that my top priority before this rewrite is ready for mainspace should be rewriting the summaries of story modes as they're in quite rough shape - Pringlesfan2002 (talk)

This is the timeline of the known events of the Splatoon series.

The End of the Human Era

• Around 12,000 years ago - Humans lived on Earth, in a series of constant wars as technology developed.
• Around 12,000 years ago - Humans did not pay attention to Earth's problems which got worse with a series of supermassive volcano eruptions around the globe.
• Around 12,000 years ago - A professor created a cryogenic capsule that could freeze a living creature for thousands of years, and used it to preserve his pet cat, Judd, who was also injected with a medicine that made him immortal. The capsule also contained a single cell of Judd's DNA, which made it capable of creating a clone of him, which was meant as a backup measure in case Judd did not survive the freezing process.
  • Around this time, the professor also created an artificial intelligence for the purpose of passing down humanity's knowledge to the next form of intelligent life.
• 12,000 years ago - A series of natural disasters, including severe flooding caused by rising sea levels as well as volcanic eruptions, cause the extinction of almost all life on the surface of Earth.
  • In The Art of Splatoon, a concept manga is shown that indicates the cause of the sudden dramatic rise in sea levels was a nuclear missile hitting Antarctica, melting the ice. This information has thus far never been repeated in other official material, so it is unknown if it is considered canon to the series proper.
• 12,000 years ago - Some humans survived the flooding and resided in Alterna, a shelter and settlement located under what was once Mt. Fuji, while others who tried to escape to other underground domes perished.
• 12,000 years ago - Another group of survivors went in search of a new planet. They created the space shuttle Ark Polaris, and brought with them many of Earth's species in cryogenic stasis.
• 12,000 years ago - When trying to reach the edge of the Solar System, the Ark Polaris was damaged by debris, damaging its navigational system and forcing the crew to go back to Earth. Having run out of fuel needed to land, the Ark Polaris would drift in the Earth's orbit for the next 10,000 years.
• Around 12,000 years ago (25 years after Earth's flooding) - Alterna's scientists, having been appointed as leaders of the settlement, made great innovations, including liquid crystals from the bodily fluids of squids. This invention was able to read human minds which, after mass-producing them and lined the cavern's walls and roof, they were able to see the surface sky the crystals projected due to the collective desire.
• Around 12,000 years ago - Alterna's leaders were replaced by the next generation, who, desiring to see Earth's surface again, created the Spirit Lifter. During the first launch test, the energy from the rocket's boosters overloaded the cavern's liquid crystals, provoking a violent chain reaction which made the stone walls break and rain debris on the settlement. This killed most of the inhabitants of Alterna, and left the rest to die shortly after.

Before the Mollusc Era

• 12,000-2,000 years ago - For 10,000 years, there was no known activity of sentient life.^{[Citation needed]}
• 12,000-7,000 years ago - After Alterna's collapse, great amounts of the liquid crystals that once covered the cavern's walls fell into the waters below and broke into microscopic fragments. These were absorbed by generation after generation of the sea creatures living in Alterna's waters. This process, together with the absorption of whatever else may have been floating in those polluted waters, passed down to the marine organisms "fresh impulses", accelerating their evolution, until one day they set foot on dry land, and they eventually left Alterna and reached Earth's surface. The region surrounding Alterna eventually became known as the Splatlands.
• 12,000-7,000 years ago - At some point global water levels receded.
• Around 7,000 years ago - A squid was born with "unique characteristics", possibly referring to human-like anatomy. This squid was considered a prophet by their fellow squid for numerous revelations they shared, and would eventually come to be considered a progenitor to the modern-day Inkling.

Start of the Mollusc Era

• 2,000 years ago - The Mollusc Era is considered to begin, although sea creatures reached the surface 5,000 years before.^{[Citation needed]}
• 2,000 years ago - Judd is released from his capsule, and becomes the judge of the earliest known Turf Wars, beginning a popular sport that was passed down through generations.
• 2,000 years ago - The Ark Polaris crash-lands back on Earth, with all of its inhabitants dying in the process, with the sole exception of one of the bears, then known as Bear #03. Bear #03, having somehow gained human-like intelligence from thousands of years of dreaming, used the navigational equipment of the Ark Polaris to search for another mammal left on Earth, instead finding the ruins of Alterna. He repairs the facilities of the settlement and begins using them to research the remaining liquid crystals. Eventually, by compounding the crystals with his own fur, he learned to create a substance capable of turning any creature it touched into a mammal.

The Great Turf War and surrounding events

• Before 100 years ago - Inkopolis and Calamari County are founded. Calamari County's customary chorus is composed to celebrate and respect the bounty of the sea.
• 127 years before the events of Splatoon - Cap'n Cuttlefish is born.
• Over 100 years before the events of Splatoon - DJ Octavio is born.
• Around 100 years ago - Sea levels rise again, forcing the Inklings and Octarians in Inkadia to fight over the remaining dry land. Around that time, the Octarians build the Great Octoweapons.
  • It is implied that the Splatlands were not affected by this flooding in the same way, due to the three lights that appeared and consumed the disaster. As a result, the Great Turf War does not appear to have affected the Splatlands, at least not to the same extent as Inkadia, and Inklings and Octarians in the area seem to have remained at peace with each other.
• During the Great Turf War - Cap'n Cuttlefish forms the Squidbeak Splatoon as its leader, together with two other Inkling members, Sheldon's grandfather Ammoses Shellendorf, and possibly Judd.
• During the Great Turf War - Ammoses Shellendorf creates blueprints for several weapons, including the Hero Shot.
• During the Great Turf War - The Octarians were victorious through the course of the Great War, aided by their Great Octoweapons. However, a plug being pulled off deactivated their weaponry, allowing their Inkling enemies to prevail and defeat them.
• After the Great Turf War - The Octarians were forced into hiding into Octo Valley and Octo Canyon, where they lived in underground domes once built by humans as shelters.
• After The Great Turf War - Inkopolis' Great Zapfish is born, and its electricity is used to power the city.
• After The Great Turf War - In the wake of the Inkling's victory, Turf Wars become a popular competitive sport.

Before the events of Splatoon

• Around 30 years ago^{[Citation needed]} - DJ Octavio begins his career as a disk jockey.
• Around 30 years ago^{[Citation needed]} - The Octarians' underground domes show signs of collapsing, and begin to lose power.
• 21 years before the events of Splatoon 2 - Pearl is born.
• Likely 17 years before the events of Splatoon - Callie and Marie are born in Calamari County.
• 18 years before the events of Splatoon 2 - Marina is born.
• At least 14 years before the events of Splatoon - Agent 3 is born.
• At least 14 years before the events of Splatoon 2 - Agent 4 and Agent 8 are born.
• Some years before the events of Splatoon - Inkopolis hosts its first annual Youth Folk-Singing Contest. Callie and Marie win the contest, and their career and fame as singers begin.
  • Pearl also participates in a Youth Folk-Singing Contest, though it is unknown if it is exactly the same event that Callie and Marie participated in, or a contest from a later year. The destructive power of her voice caused some damage to the event's venue.

Events of Splatoon

• Annie, Moe, Crusty Sean, Jelonzo, and Sheldon begin operating their shops at Booyah Base. Spyke also works from a back-alley in Inkopolis Plaza.
• Squid Squad becomes active, marking a turning point in Inkling music. Their song Splattack! is considered to have set the standard for battle music, and Now or Never! goes onto be covered by numerous other musical groups.
• After moving to Inkopolis, Callie and Marie also begin their career as announcers for Splatfests and other events in Inkopolis News, as the "Squid Sisters".

Octo Valley

• The Octarians steal the Great Zapfish and other Zapfish from Inkopolis to power their homes and the Great Octoweapons, and prepare for war against Inkopolis. Agent 3 enters Inkopolis, and joins Cap'n Cuttlefish's new Squidbeak Splatoon with Agents 1 and 2, as undercover agents who attempt to rescue Zapfish from the Octarians' control. Agent 3 launches several attacks on Octo Valley to save the Zapfish, and destroy the Great Octoweapons in the process. They also acquire Ammoses Shellendorf's plans afterwards. Cap'n Cuttlefish is abducted and brought to DJ Octavio's lair. Agent 3 fights and defeats DJ Octavio. With the Squid Sisters' help, they bring the Great Zapfish and Cap'n Cuttlefish back to Inkopolis, restoring its power supply. Cap'n Cuttlefish stores DJ Octavio into a snow globe.

Events of Squid Sisters Stories

Main article: Squid Sisters Stories

The events of Squid Sisters Stories were set in between the events of Splatoon and Splatoon 2, starting with the final Splatfest of the first game.

• Just over 1 year into their career as Inkopolis News presenters, the Squid Sisters host their final Splatfest, with Marie winning. This final Splatfest causes the Squid Sisters to reach new heights of popularity, becoming the biggest stars of Inkling society.
• Callie and Marie spend more time apart as their careers take different paths.
• Marie goes to Calamari County to visit her parents, and returns back to Inkopolis. She then searches for Callie. Marie goes to Octo Valley, and finds that Cap'n Cuttlefish's shack has been abandoned, and the snow globe containing DJ Octavio has been broken. DJ Octavio later gathers the defeated Octarians, and establishes their new base at Octo Canyon.

Events of Splatoon 2

Splatoon 2 takes place 2 years after the events of Splatoon.

• Around 1 year before the events of Splatoon 2^{[Citation needed]} - Grizzco Industries is founded by Bear #03, now known as Mr. Grizz, for the purposes of acquiring the Golden Eggs that had an unknown role in the creation of Fuzzy Ooze.
• Before the events of Splatoon 2 - Marina defects from the Octarian army to become a citizen of Inkopolis after listening to the Calamari Inkantation, becoming a huge fan of the Squid Sisters in the process. She meets Pearl, and the two eventually become the pop idol duo Off the Hook.
• About a year and a half before the events of Splatoon 2 - Inkopolis Square, once a run-down area with a minor crime problem, undergoes redevelopment efforts, eventually becoming a popular hangout spot for Inkling youth.
• Three months before the events of Splatoon 2 - A cleaner at Calamari Research Labs, where Judd's capsule is stored as a historical relic, accidentally unplugs the capsule. This causes the cell stored in the capsule to multiply, leading to Li'l Judd being born.
• The Salmonids presumably begin their great migration that occurs every 70 years, moving to waters near Inkopolis.
• Squid Squad disbands, with the band's former bassist, Quinn, eventually becoming part of the new musical duo Diss-Pair.
• The Chirpy Chips also briefly disband at some point, but reunite shortly after with the release of Blitz It! and Wave Prism.
• Flow, Bisk, and Jelfonzo begin operating their shops at Inkopolis Galleria, where Sheldon joins them as he relocates his Ammo Knights shop there.
• Off the Hook become the hosts of Inkopolis News, which is now filmed in Inkopolis Square, taking on the responsibility of announcing the current battle stages and Splatfests.

Octo Canyon

• The Great Zapfish is stolen again, plunging Inkopolis' residents into unease. Marie goes to Inkopolis Square to seek a recruit to investigate the Octarians, and find Callie. With the Squid Sisters being absent, Off The Hook enters to take their places as musicians and hosts for Inkopolis News. They also host the first Splatfests since the Squid Sisters' absence. A certain Inkling follows Marie to Octo Canyon, where she appoints them as "Agent 4". Together with Sheldon, the three recover young Zapfish from the resurgent Octarians.
• Sometime between stages, Agent 4 and Marie receive a com link. The voice sounds suspiciously like Callie... Agent 4 and Marie stumble into Callie at DJ Octavio's stage, where they find that she has been brainwashed under DJ Octavio's control. After freeing her from her brainwashing, she and Callie reunite and perform Spicy Calamari Inkantation, helping Agent 4 defeat DJ Octavio. The Great Zapfish is once again returned to Inkopolis.

Events of Octo Expansion

• Agent 3 and Cap'n Cuttlefish face off against an Octoling, who will later be known as Agent 8, who had a change of heart after hearing the Calamari Inkantation for the first time. The two battled until an unknown assailant captured all three of them and dragged them into the Deepsea Metro. Agent 8 then loses their memories and works alongside Cap'n Cuttlefish to find Agent 3 and get back to the surface.
• Agent 8 then has to complete a series of tasks in order to collect four Thangs to get to the Promised Land. They then meet C.Q. Cumber, the conductor of the Deep Sea Metro, who explains the functionality of the C.Q. 80 system. Pearl and Marina offer their support from the sidelines. Once Agent 8 collects all four thangs, the telephone assembles the machine that is supposed to bring Cap'n Cuttlefish and Agent 8 back to the surface. This soon proves to be a trap, as the machine itself is actually a blender intended to turn them both into sanitizing ooze. Agent 3 manages to break them out, but at the cost of getting knocked unconscious for a good majority of the final battle. Agent 8 later fights a mind-controlled Agent 3 and eventually manages to get to the surface to stop the telephone's evil plans. The telephone then reveals itself as Commander Tartar, a sentient AI created by the professor from 12,000 years ago as a last ditch effort to aid the development of the next dominant species. Tartar then strayed from its programming, as it was disgusted by the hedonistic nature of the Inklings and Octarians. It then sought out to create its own 'Master Race' of Sanitized Octarians. After Agent 8 uses Marina's Hyper Bombs and covers the NILS statue completely with ink, Pearl uses her Princess Cannon to finish the job, marking another win for the New Squidbeak Splatoon. Agent 8 joins Pearl and Marina on their way to Inkopolis Square, Agent 3 goes out on patrol and Cap'n Cuttlefish returns to the Deepsea Metro to check in on the Denizens of the deep for just a little longer.

Events of Splatoon 3

Splatoon 3 takes place 5 years after the events of Splatoon 2, and 7 years after the events of Splatoon.

• Before the events of Splatoon 3 - Cap'n Cuttlefish passes his title as Captain to Agent 3.
• The city of Splatsville develops rapidly, as many Inklings and Octolings move there following the results of Splatoon 2's Final Fest.
• The band Deep Cut become hosts of Anarchy Splatcast, a television and radio show that fulfills a similar role to Inkopolis News for residents of Splatsville.
• The former members of Squid Squad, minus Quinn, form a new band, Front Roe, with a new band member replacing their former bassist.
• A train route is constructed between Splatsville and Inkopolis Plaza, allowing easier travel between the two areas.

Return of the Mammalians

• The Great Zapfish gets kidnapped yet again. An Inkling/Octoling goes down a manhole, where they meet Craig Cuttlefish, who dubs them the New Agent 3. New Agent 3 finds DJ Octavio, who's troops have gone missing, and thinks that Cuttlefish was behind it. When New Agent 3 beats DJ Octavio, he confesses and says that he didn't steal The Great Zapfish this time. Before being able to continue the talk, the trio fall down into Alterna. New Agent 3 loses all their stuff, except for Smallfry. New Agent 3 meets Agents 1 and 2, alongside the Captain. Agent 1 introduces the three as the New Squidbeak Splatoon. Agent 2 tells New Agent 3 that the group had found three strong signals on islands called Sites. In a level, the New Squidbeak Splatoon are introduced to O.R.C.A, an AI created by a group of humans to Just as the New Squidbeak Splatoon was leaving the first Site, Deep Cut, consisting of Shiver, Frye, and Big Man, appear and introduces themselves. Shiver and Frye tell Agents 1 and 2 that they are looking for treasure and that they need it. Deep Cut disappears, allowing New Agent 3 to get to the next site. New Agent 3 fights Deep Cut as bosses, allowing for them to use the treasures' pieces to make a lawn mover and get rid of the Fuzzy Ooze by the rocketship. Deep Cut then realizes the misunderstanding, helping the New Squidbeak Splatoon and New Agent 3 to reach the top of the rocket. There they found a dried and semidead Cuttlefish, and met Mr Grizz who was the one behind the Octarian army kidnapping and its fuzzification. Mr Grizz, then leaves with his rocket into space in an effort to cover Earth in fuzzy ooze to return the mammalian balance. Then Captain 3 when seeing Cuttlefish, cries and because of the tear, C.C. revives. Soon after Deep Cut help New Agent 3 to reach space and battle Mr Grizz in his rocket. In the end Mr Grizz releases the fuzz, provoking N.A.3 and smallfry to get thrown into space, being saved by DJ Octavio in his improved mech. Then the final battle to save Earth takes place, with inklings, octarians and salmonids together against the biggest threat, defeating in the end Mr Grizz, who explotes and returning Earth with the Great Zapfish.
