Basic Tee
The Basic Tee is a piece of clothing in the Splatoon series.
In Splatoon, it is a 1-star item produced by SquidForce and comes with the primary ability Quick Respawn. It is unlocked from the start. It cannot be ordered from another player.
In Splatoon 2, it is a 1-star item produced by SquidForce and comes with the primary ability Quick Respawn. It is unlocked from the start. It can also be purchased from SplatNet 2 Gear Shop for 750.
In Splatoon 3, it is a 0-star item produced by SquidForce and comes with the primary ability Quick Respawn. It can be purchased from Man-o'-Wardrobe for 300 or from SplatNet 3 Shop for 750.
Appearance
In general, the Basic Tee is a short-sleeved, yellow T-shirt with some dark yellow Inkling letters and a pin bearing the a green and yellow cartoon squid (which is referred to as "Jr. Mark" when viewed as a mem cake) on the front. On the back is the same Jr. Mark symbol in dark yellow with white eyes and a different white Inkling text displayed below it.
The Splatoon version's Inkling text on the front has an angular design, the pin is white and located on the wearer's upper left bosom, and the hem has a purple tag bearing the SquidForce's X-esque logo.
The Splatoon 2 version has a different Inkling text on the front which is more rounded than the previous design, the pin is purple, the hem has a triangular yellow tag bearing a triangular logo (likely an alternate SquidForce logo), and the aforementioned triangular logo can also be seen on the back of the tee between the Jr. Mark symbol and white Inkling text. This version of the tee also has both the eyes of the Jr. Mark symbol and the Inkling text on the back glow in the dark. When worn by boys, the pin is located on the wearer's lower right bosom.
The Splatoon 3 version is largely identical to the Splatoon 2 version, only being different by having the white text on the back no longer glow in the dark. This version of the shirt can be changed into an oversized version using the 'Adjust Gear' feature, where the pin uses the same positioning as masculine styles.

Trivia
- The design on the Splatoon version of the Basic Tee loosely resembles the Japanese word for "squid" (いか) in hiragana, while the Splatoon 2 version resembles the same word (イカ) written in katakana. Both versions have letters that resemble the English word "squid" on the back.
- The Jr. Mark symbol seen on the pin and back side of both versions of the Basic Tee is a reference to the Japanese Shoshinsha mark, a symbol representing beginners. This is likely a reference to the fact that the Basic Tee is the first piece of clothing received in the game.
- Based on its SplatNet 2 price, it can be deduced that the normal price of the Basic Tee would be 300 if it were purchasable from Ye Olde Cloth Shoppe rather than being a part of the starting gear.
- As of Version 2.0.0 of Splatoon 2, the Basic Tee and the rest of the starting gear are the only pieces of gear that cannot have their original abilities restored if purchased through SplatNet 2, unless if ordered from another player through Murch.
- The Splatoon version of the Basic Tee can be seen under the SRL Coat in Splatoon 2.
- Both versions of the Basic Tee exist in real life, sold by KOG.
