Those Aren't Birds is the 36th level in Splatoon 3's story mode, Return of the Mammalians.

Description

The player starts on a platform with a launchpad leading to the main island.

The main island consists of a large rectangular platform with a short extension at south-end with the checkpoint for the level. The platform has inkable edges at its west, south, and east ends, with slightly raised ledges at the west and east ends. The north end of the platform has a grated fence. The center of the platform consists of alternating squares of inkable concrete and uninkable glass.

Further north of the main island is an unreachable wall with two pillars topped with triangular prisms.

Access

The level is on the north-eastern structure of Landfill Dreamland, located one level below the level Let's Put a Pin in That. It is most easily accessible by climbing the inkable shipping containers by Octohoppers Don't Have a Sense of Humor (and They Hate Puns)!. Alternatively, the player can clear fuzzy ooze covering an inkfurler on the north end of the structure, or drop down from Let's Put a Pin in That after clearing fuzzy ooze on the grated bridge if they approached the level from the northern-most building.

Walkthrough

The player is tasked with breaking eighteen target blocks. Once the player leaves the checkpoint, the crates will appear on top of the wall, then get launched towards the main platform. If the player fails to break a target crate before it bounces off of the platform out of sight, the player gets splatted by O.R.C.A. and must start from the beginning of the sequence.

  • Targets 1-7 appear one at a time, and are all positioned in the center of the wall.
    • Targets 1-3 launches straight forward.
    • Targets 4 and 7 launches towards the left.
    • Targets 5 and 6 launches towards right.
  • Target 8 is a large, reinforced crate requiring numerous shots to destroy. The target launches straight forward, and moves more slowly through the air.
  • Targets 9 and 10 appear together at the same time, and launches one after another
    • Target 9, the left crate, launches towards the right.
    • Target 10, the right crate, launches towards the left.
  • Targets 11-13 appear together at the same time, and launches one after another.
    • Target 11, the center crate, launches straight forward.
    • Target 12, the left crate, launches towards the left.
    • Target 13, the right crate, launches towards the right.
  • Targets 14-18 appear together at the same time, and launches one after another.
    • Targets 14 and 16, the second-rightmost and rightmost crates respectively, launches towards the left.
    • Target 15 and 17, the second-leftmost and leftmost crates respectively, launches towards the right.
    • Target 18, the center crate, launches straight forwards. However, it will hit the top of the fence, causing it to fall off the north end of the platform if the player fails to react.
