Octohoppers are a type of Octarian and an enemy in Return of the Mammalians in Splatoon 3.

Description

Octohoppers are a variant of Octotroopers and very similar to them in design, but they ride a differently-designed vehicle resembling a pogo stick. This vehicle is composed of a spring-like post, a yellow base (which is more rectangular than that of an Octotrooper's vehicle), and a bucket-like nozzle used to fling ink similarly to a Slosher, which is how Octohoppers attack. They constantly jump up and down and actively pursue the player upon noticing them. It is also mentioned that they (apparently) hate puns.

There is also an Octodiver variant of the Octohopper that emerges from enemy ink upon the player's approach.

Trivia

  • The Octohopper has slightly more health than the regular Octotrooper and its variants. Notably, this lets the enemy survive one hit from the Slosher.
  • When an idle Octohopper patrols along a circular path, it can turn in mid-air, moving along a curved path.
  • During combat Octohopper will try to maintain some distance from the player. This can be used to force one off a ledge and off the map.
  • Unlike other Octotrooper-type enemies, the Octohopper does not use its weapon nozzle to ink ground under itself while idle. Instead, ink seems to spill from the underside of the vehicle.
