Graffiti is common in Inkopolis, being present in Inkopolis Plaza, Inkopolis Square, and every stage. Much of this graffiti consists of player-made illustrations posted via the mailbox, which, in Splatoon, were in the form of Miiverse posts until their removal upon Miiverse's closure. These posts are also displayed on certain billboards and in speech bubbles above Inklings and Octolings in the plaza or square, and during Splatfests, they appear on banners, neon signs, fireworks, the back of the Squid Sisters' trucks in Splatoon, and small cards in Splatoon 2. If a player holds down in the plaza or square while aiming at a player-made drawing, they are given the option to respond to it with "Yeah!" (in Splatoon) or "Fresh!" (in Splatoon 2). If the player is not connected to the internet or disables posts in the Options menu (or in any case in Splatoon following Miiverse's closure), graffiti that would normally depict these posts instead shows predetermined illustrations. There are also several cases of graffiti that always depicts predetermined illustrations, such as on stickers, the ground, and loading screens, and several symbols recur throughout these instances.

Trivia
- Despite the closure of Miiverse, posts from it still appear as graffiti in Splatoon in the Battle Dojo stages and Octo Valley missions that are based on multiplayer stages.
- According to a developer interview, jellyfish are known to create a large amount of graffiti.[4] This may mean that they are responsible for some of the graffiti in Inkopolis.
- Some stickers that appear as Easter eggs depict characters from other Nintendo franchises, such as Bloopers and Octoroks.
- The graffiti in stages is colored to match the neutral color of the two ink colors in the current battle.
- There are different variants of the small cards that depict graffiti in Octo Valley and Octo Canyon to those found in Inkopolis. In the Octo Expansion, round versions of these cards appear.
