Can you help us get it done?
- Order redirects here. For other pages uses of Order, see Order (disambiguation).
Order, also known by its boss name Overlorder and Smollusk after being defeated for the first time, is the main antagonist of Splatoon 3: Side Order. It is an AI created by Marina during her creation of the Memverse, and the overseer of the Spire of Order.
It is the final boss fought at 30F.
Appearance
Order resembles a black cloud comprised of glitches and noise, vaguely in the shape of a cartoon proportioned octopus, with a circular mouth akin to a siphon mouth, oval eyes with a line straight down the middle, and wisps trailing off the body that resemble tentacles. The exact proportions of the mouth and eyes constantly change with the glitches.
The Overlorder is an extremely oversized octopus, colored in the same black ink as Jelletons. All of its facial features are unnatural, as for example, it has two red ∞-balls for eyes. The ink it is covered in is also transparent, with white "bones" inside, similar to the Jelletons.
Once it is defeated for the first time, Order is forced into a miniscule form that is dubbed "Smollusk", thanks to Pearl greatly damaging Overlorder during the climax with a Killer Wail-like scream. As Smollusk, Order resembles an octopus paralarva with black tinted tentacles, albeit with mature octopus eyes.
Strategy
Like its previous duet form Marina Agitando, Overlorder is protected by a barrier that is linked to a set of nearby portals; if the portals are destroyed Overlorder will be exposed to attack. However, after the first set of portals is destroyed the following ones will begin to move across the arena, spawning more Jelletons all the while.
Overlorder has many different special attacks that the player must be prepared for. Overlorder can shoot ink in barrages, fire Sting Ray beams, propel several Reefsliders consecutively, launch Super Chumps, spawn Jelletons, and send its tentacles out underneath the player in an attempt to launch them off the arena.
In its second form (which only appears on the player's first time clearing the Spire), Overlorder removes all the color chips in the player's Palette. Each portal instead contains special Spectrum chips inside of them, with each giving the full benefits of a completed suite of the tone's chips when destroyed. After all portals are destroyed, the player can use Pearl's Color Wail with the Special button to defeat Overlorder and complete the run.

Quotes
The following text is quoted from the Jelleton Field Guide.
(1) |
Order was vicious. But we're no slouches ourselves. I always knew Eight and Pearl could do it. And so we returned to the real world, happily ever after. |
(1) |
Wasn't that li'l Order cuuute? I wonder where it went. |
(1) |
That's the last we'll see of THAT creep, I bet. And if not, then Eight, Marina, Acht, and me are gonna fry it up all over again! |
Conclusion Even here, we stay Off the Hook! |
Trivia
- Much like with Commander Tartar in Octo Expansion and Mr. Grizz in Return of the Mammalians, players can re-experience the second part of the fight with Overlorder and the credits for Side Order by interacting with the Killer Wail 5.1 speaker used by the Pearl Drone for the Color Wail, preserved in a glass case to the right of the elevator entrance in the foyer.
- The speaker on the left allows you to re-experience the first fight against Marina Agitando and the first fight against Overlorder.
- Order is the first final boss in Splatoon history that does not come from the past, being an infant compared to DJ Octavio, Commander Tartar, and Mr. Grizz.
- Overlorder has 13 titles, with the rematch titles having a numerical motif that match the rematch number. The title only advances if a new Palette is used. The English titles are shown below.
- Story Title: The Magistrate of Order
- First Rematch: The One Slight Catch
- Second Rematch: The Second Restoration
- Third Rematch: History Threepeats
- Fourth Rematch: The Foursaken Remnant
- Fifth Rematch: Pent-Up Frustration
- Sixth Rematch: Back to Basix
- Seventh Rematch: Acsept No Substitute
- Eighth Rematch: Increasingly Despereight
- Ninth Rematch: Saturnine Squatter
- Tenth Rematch: Tentacled Troublemaker
- Rematch using Agent 8's Palette: Last Order
- After Palette completion: Obstructive Ordeal
- In the English version of the game, Smollusk speaks by having its L's and R's replaced with W's in a manner that can be considered childlike, to further portray its smaller and weaker nature as well as the fact that it had only recently been "born".
Etymology
Overlorder is a portmanteau of "overlord" and "Order".
Smollusk is a portmanteau of "smol", an internet slang variant of "small" that is usually used to describe something that is cute and small, and "mollusk".
On subsequent fights using a new Palette (excluding Agent 8's Palette), Overlorder gains new boss titles containing numerical puns; for each fight, the digit count goes up by one. These puns use English digit names, with two exceptions: Pent-Up Frustration comes from pente, Greek for "five", while Acsept No Substitutes comes from septem, Latin for "seven".
