A Splat-Switch in Splatoon 2.
A Splat Switch! Haven't seen one of those in a while.

Splat-Switches, also formatted as Splat Switches and as splat switches in Splatoon 3, are square switches found on platforms in Octo Valley, Octo Canyon, Shifty Station, the Octo Expansion, and Return of the Mammalians. When 70% of a Splat-Switch is covered in the player's ink, it will change entirely to the player's ink color and cause a platform to shift or rotate.

Description

Splat-Switches are square-shaped panels with small triangles on all sides that faintly glow red when not activated. When covered with 70% of Agent 3, Agent 4, or Agent 8's ink, the Splat-Switch will activate and change to the player's ink color. When activated, the switch causes a platform to shift or rotate, allowing the player to progress in a mission. In Shifty Station, one of two things can happen when a Splat-Switch is activated depending on which team activated it.

In Splatoon 2, new types of Splat-Switches were introduced:

  • A temporary switch that is only on for a limited time, denoted by having three arrows on each side of the switch as opposed to one
  • An A/B switch that can be turned off by enemy ink, denoted by two pairs of lights on either side of the switch
  • Smaller versions of basic and temporary switches

The former two are exclusive to the Octo Expansion, but A/B switches also appear in some Shifty Stations.

Appearances

Trivia

  • A glitch exists where a player can partially ink the switch and then pause the game. When the player resumes, the switch will automatically activate. If the player had the game open for too long, this glitch will not work, however.[Citation needed]
