READ THE MANUAL!
— Moe upon entering Cooler Heads for the first time

Moe is a clownfish with bulging eyes who lives in Annie's hair. In Splatoon and Splatoon 3, he runs the headgear shop Cooler Heads alongside Annie, brashly critiquing players who enter the shop.[1] He can also be seen in Annie's hair in Splatoon 2, though he otherwise has no role in this game.

Personality and traits

Moe acts hostile towards the Inklings, insulting them at every single opportunity. Though he acts tough, he stubbornly refuses to leave Annie's head and never does anything on his own.[2][3] This is partially represented by their manner of speaking: Annie always speaks first, with Moe popping up afterwards with a smart remark.

And here are two familiar faces - Annie and Moe from Cooler Heads, the Inkopolis headgear shop! Annie has leaned into her love of gothic metal and changed her style. She also moonlights as a sysop for SplatNet and adds decals to weapons on the side. As for Moe? Still a clown fish.

Trivia

  • Annie and Moe's names together sound like "anemone", Annie's species.
  • Moe's name may be referencing Nemo from Finding Nemo, who is also a clownfish.
  • Curiously, Moe is one of the few speaking characters in the Splatoon series to not seem to have changed significantly in appearance towards a more humanoid form compared to the real-world counterpart of their species, other examples of this being Craymond and Nails.
  • Moe's appearance differs significantly from the only other known clownfish, Harmony's companion, and is the only example of its species that is shown to speak. In addition, unlike Harmony's clownfish, the specific species of Moe is not known.
