Opening is a jingle originally performed by Squid Squad.

Description

Opening is a short soft rock jingle consisting of an electric guitar sequence with drums and a reverb effect. It plays at the beginning of every multiplayer match in Splatoon, as the camera pans out across the stage, before being cut off by the players turning into their humanoid forms on the spawn point. Normally the full track does not play, but under lag, it may sometimes play the full track, and after it finishes, the silence continues as the camera pan repeats. This track is featured in Splatune.

Remixes and covers

Opening (Squid Sisters)

During Splatfests in Splatoon, all of the regular music was replaced with Squid Sisters songs. Therefore, instead of the standard Squid Squad version, a cover was used by the Squid Sisters, despite a lack of vocals. It is now a purely electronic production. It is featured in Splatune. It was also used at the beginning of live performances, and recordings of the intros from Shiokaraibu at Tokaigi 2016 and Shiokaraibu at Chokaigi 2016 can be found in Splatoon Live in Makuhari -Shiokalive-.

Opening (Wet Floor)

No new Squid Squad songs appear in Splatoon 2 matches (later revealed to be due to the group's disbandment), with Wet Floor taking their place. Although their catalog consists mostly of all-new compositions, they also recorded a new version of the Opening jingle to play at the start of battles, sounding very similar to the original, yet with additional electronic influences. This version is included in Splatune 2.

Opening (Off the Hook)

Like what the Squid Sisters did in Splatoon, Off the Hook recorded a new version for use in Splatfests in Splatoon 2, with heavy electronic production. Once again, it contains no vocals from Off the Hook. It is featured in Splatune 2. It is also used at the beginning of live performances, and recordings of the intros from Haicalive at Tokaigi 2018 can be found in Octotune.

Opening (Splatoon 3)

As heard on its Release Date Revealed trailer,[1] Splatoon 3 also has a new cover of Opening jingle with a hard rock style. It consists of a deep electric guitar sequence with drums and a deeper drone noise.

Other versions

Opening (Off the Hook FrostyFest)

The FrostyFest was the first Splatfest to contain a special match intro, which is the standard Off the Hook version but with bells added, to suit the festive theme.

Last Battle Opening

A minor key version of the Off the Hook version of the opening is heard at the beginning of Turf War in the Octo Expansion. This version is extended as well, as it plays when Marina is explaining the instructions to Agent 8. It was also used in the Chaos vs. Order Splatfest, albeit ending sooner, replacing the standard Off the Hook version. It is included in Octotune.
