Ride or Fry is a song by Octoplush.

Description

Ride or Fry is an upbeat house song with saturated vocals and synths, funky bass and guitar, and pulsating drums. The song starts out in the key of A♭ with a pumping bass heavily side chained to a 4 on the floor kick drum while the rest of the instrumentation gradually fades in. Once all of the instruments are fully present around 0:14, the song's key shifts up a whole step to B♭, featuring lush synth pads, pumping drums and bass, funky guitars, and occasional horn stabs. Vocals in the verse are sung through a vocoder with the backing instruments initially being stripped to just drums and light bass fills. In the second half the verse at 0:41, the synth pads and guitars return while the bass kicks back into full gear. After the verse around 0:54, the song's key shifts back down to A♭ and repeats the melody featured in the introduction, with a cutoff filter sweeping up and down. After this, the song loops back to the section beginning at 0:14.

It is often played in levels centered around destroying target crates or target balloons while on ride rails, such as 0204 Splitting Crosshairs, 0408 Easy Ride, Tricky Targets, 0507 One-Way Ride through Target Town, and 0510 Shooter on Rails. It is also present in levels with a time limit, such as 0306 Time Trial and Errors, 0412 The Path to Perfect Penmanship, and 0609 Dive and Dash.

Etymology

The name of this song is a play on the phrase "ride or die", which is referring to someone extremely loyal. It could also refer to its usage in levels based on speed or the use of ride rails, or how all of the levels have time limits or easy ways to fail: the player needs to ride or they will die. Additionally, frying is a common way to cook some sea creatures.
