Rainbow Color Inkantation is a song performed by the Now or Never Seven. It is a megamix of the songs Calamari Inkantation, Color Pulse, and Anarchy Rainbow.

Description

Rainbow Color Inkantation was first teased in the reveal trailer for the Grand Festival[1] and was available during the last 24 hours of the Splatfest. This track was one of the songs that could play during Splatfest battles and was the only song featured in the Tricolor Turf War stage Grand Splatlands Bowl, where it also replaced Now or Never!.

The song begins with the Squid Sisters singing the opening lines of Calamari Inkantation, followed by Marina singing the opening lines of Color Pulse, then Deep Cut singing their third and fourth lines from the intro of Calamari Inkantation 3MIX. At 0:53, audio of the Squid Sisters' catchphrase, "Staaaay fresh!" plays. At 1:18, a break similar to the one that plays right before the loop in Big Betrayal occurs, followed by audio of Off the Hook's catchphrase, "Don't get cooked... Stay off the hook!" Right before the 2-minute mark, audio of Deep Cut's catchphrase, "Catch ya later!" plays. In a Splatfest battle, the catchphrase gets cut off by one of the idol groups' Now or Never! versions starting.

If one of the attacking teams in a Tricolor Battle has secured the second Ultra Signal on the Grand Splatlands Bowl, the last minute of the track is replaced by a section sung by the respective team's idol group: a version of City of Color for Team Past, a version of Ebb & Flow that also features the melody from Spectrum Obligato ~ Ebb & Flow (Out of Order) for Team Present, and an original part, which includes traditional Japanese-styled chants, sung by Deep Cut for Team Future. If the second Ultra Signal is secured during the last minute of the match, the track dynamically switches to that team's version. If neither of the attacking teams has secured the second Ultra Signal, the last minute is replaced by a unique instrumental section that is based on the backing track of Calamari Inkantation, with this version being the one present on the Jukebox. It also features an arrangement of the chorus of Anarchy Rainbow, as well as samples from Muck Warfare, Off the Hook's version of Now or Never!, Acid Hues, and Color Pulse. Each of the last-minute variations features the same ending portion, an instrumental based on the ending of Now or Never!.

Trivia

  • Their choice of songs for the last minute might reference their team:
    • The Squid Sisters might reference Team Past by singing a version of City of Color, which was their first revealed song during the Splatoon Direct, making it the oldest.
    • Off the Hook might reference Team Present by referencing Spectrum Obligato ~ Ebb & Flow (Out of Order), their latest song at the point of Grand Festival.
    • Deep Cut might reference Team Future by singing a brand new song instead of an already existing one.

Etymology

The song's name appears to be made up of one word from the titles of each of the songs that it mixes: "Rainbow" from Anarchy Rainbow, "Color" from Color Pulse, and "Inkantation" from Calamari Inkantation. Additionally, the "Rainbow Color" in the name might refer to the variety of colors that are featured in Past vs. Present vs. Future, such as from the showers in the Grand Festival Grounds.
