This is a list of characters in the Splatoon manga.

Some of the characters' current English names are from fan translations. The official English translations from VIZ Media are used when available.

Protagonists

Team Blue

A group of supposedly idiotic Inklings who are the main protagonists of the manga. They don a blue ink color. This team consists of four members:

Goggles is quite naïve. In fact, it is mentioned in issue 4 that Goggles mixes toothpaste and wasabi. He tends to never listen to anyone else except for Bobble, showing that she and Goggles have a very special bond.
He often pulls other Inklings' pants down, mainly to Rider, and often gets naked in public.
A topic about Goggles from the squid profiles in the manga reads: "He can't hear his alarm clock very well, so he always leaves his house tired and disorientated. He also has a bad sleeping posture." This might mean that Goggles cannot hear well, which is why he sometimes ignores people. Another topic states the lunch he brings to practice is usually pickled plums made by his grandmother.
In the first issue, he wore the Pilot Goggles, Zink Layered LS, and Purple Hi-Horses; and used the plain Splattershot.[1]
His favorite food is Onigiri-sushi.
In Chapters 8 and 9, he is assigned as Agent 3 and wears the default Agent 3 set, wielding the Hero Shot Replica, plus the Pilot Goggles for the secondary headgear.
In the Splatoon 2 manga, he now wears the Eggplant Mountain Coat and a pair of drawstring pants along with his Pilot Goggles and Hero Runner Replicas since his clothes burned up upon Super Jumping to his team from the top of Deca Tower and crashing into the Crust Bucket. He now uses the Splattershot.
Glasses can be a very anxious squid but tries to hide it as best as he can. He tries to flaunt his knowledge as much as he can, but sometimes he notices nobody is listening to him, which upsets him.
In the first issue, he wore the Retro Specs, Vintage Check Shirt, and White Kicks; and used the Inkbrush.[1]
In the Splatoon 2 manga, he now wears his Retro Specs along with a Baby-Jelly Shirt & Tie and a pair of Smoky Wingtips. He still uses the Octobrush, but he still has a few other brushes, like when he used the Inkbrush Nouveau set during the battle against Team Emperor.
In the escape portion of the Octo Expansion arc, he wields the Undercover Brella.
He is the actual leader of the Blue Team, not Goggles.
Whilst acting as a big sister to the team despite them being the same age, Headphones is level-headed, except when Goggles is doing his usual idiotic things.
In the first issue, she wore the Studio Headphones, White Tee, and Pink Trainers and used the Splat Charger.[1]
In the Splatoon 2 manga, she now wears the Slash King Tank, Red Hi-Horses, and a skirt with shorts with her Studio Headphones and she now wields a Splat Charger.
Bobble Hat seems to enjoy Goggles' actions. Though she and her big smile show her innocence, Bobble Hat is pretty much always happy in the face of danger.
Although she is always smiling, when beaten by Skull, her eyebrows are seen to be angry and annoyed.
In the first issue, she wore the Bobble Hat, Green Zip Hoodie, and Cream Hi-Tops; and used the Splat Roller.[1]
In the Splatoon 2 manga, she sports the "Haircut" hairstyle and wears the Gray Hoodie with her Bobble Hat and her usual Purple Sea Slugs. She still uses the Slosher.
In the escape portion of the Octo Expansion arc, she wields the Tri-Slosher.

Supporting

Team Yellow-Green

Item/Ability: Currently unknown, most likely the Triple Inkstrike (三連トルネード San-Ren Torunēdo) attack. While it is a special weapon chain, it can be used by three Lime Team members (Uniform, Bamboo, and Stealth were seen doing so in the first issue).

She is said to be a class representative, indicating that she attends school, from Chapter 7 of the Splatoon 2 manga. She is also seen to be good friends with Bamboo as she only joined back with Rider if Bamboo would join as well.
  • Bamboo Hat. A female Inkling who wears the Bamboo Hat, Navy Striped LS, and Blue Slip-Ons. She uses the Heavy Splatling.[1] She is said to have a hobby in wood carving from Chapter 7 of the Splatoon 2 manga.
  • A group of friends, despite Rider hating teamwork from his initial appearance, he brought them together so he could compete.
  • When Rider was training the Blue Team to take on Skull, it is revealed that they became friends and started battling together.

Trivia

  • Most squids are named by a piece of their gear, mostly headgear. The honorific '-kun' or '-chan' at the end of their names are added in Japanese.
    • Some of these squids, like Rider, are named after their clothing and other squids, like Cleats, are named after their shoes.
  • As shown in a CoroCoro video about Splatoon Volume 1, Sankichi drew the mascot, Goggles, in squid ink.
  • All teams in the first Splatoon era of the manga consist of two male Inklings and two female Inklings, with the captain always being male, and the bios for each team, except Dark Green Team, list them in the order 'male, male, female, female'.
  • The Inklings' and Octolings' eye color are based on their current ink color, such as Gloves having green eyes when he has green ink, while he is seen with blue eyes during the Salmon Run session, where he had blue ink.
