Etymology

The band's name is derived from the name of the historical Riot Act, which has passed into common parlance as part of the idiomatic phrase "reading [someone] the riot act" (meaning to sternly warn someone). It is also a play on the word "act" as used to refer to musical performers.

Names in other languages

The name of the band is the same as English in all languages except for Japanese. The band is called their Japanese name in European trailers.
