Description

This song plays in several stages in Splatoon 2's Octo Expansion. It has an ethereal, dreamlike sound to it, making it sound distant. Its heavenly vibe is calmly accentuated be several different beat changes and it loops until silently ending off on a fading note. The calm nature is fitting as it is used in stages which usually require a lot of precision and patience. The song mainly consists of a repeating synthesizer ostinato which repeats throughout most all of the track, changing in pitch a few times, accompanied by some percussion and a bass. It is generally used on slower, more-thought based stations, mostly where Agent 8 has limited ink. It also plays on D05 All That 8-Ball Station (also has limited ink) and B07 Fly 8-Ball Station, which are based around shooting 8-balls to hit targets, while C11 Abracadabra Station and F02 Slow Ride Station which are focused on Agent 8 slowly figuring out the route to the goal.

#12.2 awakened plays when the player meets Acht in the elevator at the beginning of the game. This song consists of two distinct parts in Ordertune, though only part 2 is included in the jukebox. Part 1 begins to play as the elevator doors in the foyer open to reveal Acht. This song consists of a simple echoing synth melody with minimal backing. Once the player enters the elevator, the music changes to part 2, which is a remix of #12 awake. This version features a sparser arrangement than the original and uses the same synth instrument as part 1 for its repeating melody. A new synth countermelody is also added, which breaks the relative monotony that was present in #12 awake and evokes bits of the hook from #47 onward.

Etymology

Awake could refer to the ethereal tone of this song, as well as when Agent 8 is awoken at the start of the Octo Expansion, and is associated with concentration and thought, suiting the stations the track tends to play in.

#12.2 awakened refers to the song being a remix of #12 awake, and may also reference how Acht has "awakened", having regained their free will in the Memverse. The .2 may also reference it being the second Dedf1sh song in Side Order, after #0.1 style.
