Description
Description
Opening is a short rock jingle consisting of an electric guitar sequence with drums and a reverb effect. It plays at the beginning of every multiplayer match in S, as the camera pans out across the stage, before being cut off by the players turning into their humanoid forms on the spawn point. Normally the full track does not play, but under lag, it may sometimes play the full track, and after it finishes, the silence continues as the camera pan repeats. This track is featured in Splatune. In S3, this version of the song can sometimes play in the Battle Lobby.

Opening is a jingle originally performed by Squid Squad.

Description

Opening is a short rock jingle consisting of an electric guitar sequence with drums and a reverb effect. It plays at the beginning of every multiplayer match in Splatoon, as the camera pans out across the stage, before being cut off by the players turning into their humanoid forms on the spawn point. Normally the full track does not play, but under lag, it may sometimes play the full track, and after it finishes, the silence continues as the camera pan repeats. This track is featured in Splatune. In Splatoon 3, this version of the song can sometimes play in the lobby.

Remixes and covers

Opening (Wet Floor)

No new Squid Squad songs appear in Splatoon 2 matches (later revealed to be due to the group's disbandment), with Wet Floor taking their place. Although their catalog consists mostly of all-new compositions, they also recorded a new version of the Opening jingle to play at the start of battles, sounding very similar to the original, yet with additional electronic influences. This version is included in Splatune 2. In Splatoon 3, this version of the song can sometimes play in the lobby.

Opening (Squid Sisters)

During Splatfests in Splatoon, all of the regular music was replaced with Squid Sisters songs. Therefore, instead of the standard Squid Squad version, a cover was used by the Squid Sisters, despite a lack of vocals. It is now a purely electronic production. It is featured in Splatune. It was also used at the beginning of live performances, and recordings of the intros from Shiokalive at Tokaigi 2016 and Shiokalive at Chokaigi 2016 can be found in Splatoon Live in Makuhari -Shiokalive-, and the recording from Shiokalive at Cho Party 2016 can be found in Splatoon 2 Live in Makuhari -Tentalive-.

Opening (Off the Hook)

Like what the Squid Sisters did in Splatoon, Off the Hook recorded a new version for use in Splatfests in Splatoon 2, with heavy electronic production. Once again, it contains no vocals from Off the Hook. It is featured in Splatune 2. It is also used at the beginning of live performances, and the recording of the intro from Haicalive at Tokaigi 2018 can be found in Octotune.

Opening (C-Side)

Similar to what Wet Floor did, Splatoon 3 uses a cover of the Opening jingle by C-Side with a hard rock style, since they take the place of the main band in multiplayer matches, so their version plays at the start of every match. It consists of a deep electric guitar sequence with drums and a deeper drone noise, feeling more intense and rough than the other versions. Unlike the first two games, it has no vocals.

Opening (Deep Cut)

Since Deep Cut are the new idols, they composed a new version of the Opening jingle for use during all Splatfests in Splatoon 3, replacing the standard C-Side version. It has no vocals, like the previous Splatfest versions, and uses drums and many electronic instruments, mainly synths, like most of their songs.

Other versions

Last Battle Opening

A minor key version of the Off the Hook version of the opening is heard at the beginning of Turf War in the Octo Expansion. This version is extended as well, as it plays when Marina is explaining the instructions to Agent 8. It was also used in the Chaos vs. Order Splatfest, albeit ending sooner, replacing the standard Off the Hook version. It is included in Octotune.

Opening (Family vs. Friends)

Family vs. Friends was the first Splatfest to contain a special match intro, which is the standard Off the Hook version but with bells added to suit the festive theme.

Opening (Tricolor Turf War)

An alternate version is used during Tricolor Turf War matches during Splatfests in Splatoon 3, with sounding almost the same as the normal Splatfest version, but with some extra drums, that are much louder than any of the instruments.

Opening (Zombie vs. Skeleton vs. Ghost)

During the Zombie vs. Skeleton vs. Ghost Splatfest, a modified version was used, adding a rising and falling whistle sound and distant evil laughter. This version also had another variant for Tricolor Turf War.

Opening (Friends vs. Family vs. Solo)

During the Friends vs. Family vs. Solo Splatfest, a modified version was used, adding bells to suit the festive theme. This version also had another variant for Tricolor Turf War.

Opening (Baby Chicks vs. Li'l Bunnies vs. Bear Cubs)

During the Baby Chicks vs. Li'l Bunnies vs. Bear Cubs Splatfest, a third modification of Opening was used, using xylophones and fiddles to suit the springtime theme. This version also had another variant for Tricolor Turf War.

Opening (C-Side, live version)

During Deep Cut Concert at Nintendo Live 2022, a version of Opening by C-Side was performed before Clickbait. This version is about 17 seconds long (the in-game version loops until the game is ready to start). During the repeating section, a cymbal roll is add and gets progressively louder until the end. During the last bar, several high notes are played, ending the short piece in a climax.

Etymology

The name comes from the fact that since the jingle plays at the start of every match, is the Opening of the battle.
