The Undercover Brella has a shield, and unlike the Tenta Brella, the Recycled Brella 24 Mk I, and the Splat Brella, can fire while holding up its shield. However this comes at the cost of its damage, shield HP, and it cannot launch its shield. The Undercover Brella has a very lackluster set, and it does not synergize very well. The Undercover Brella does not have very much range, and Ink Mine does not help with poking, while its low damage cannot combo very well with Reefslider. The sub and special are also somewhat weak.

Use

Being able to hold up and shield while firing, as well as being a lightweight weapon, allow it to fill the role of a skirmisher:

  • Its short range, as well as low shield HP, means it will be difficult to rush opponents head-on.
    • It is advised to try to surprise a lone opponent, as its small shield makes it difficult to fight multiple opponents from different angles
  • The Undercover Brella also has decent turfing, allowing it to maintain map control, capture Splat Zones, and quickly build up the special gauge.
  • What sets the Undercover Sorella Brella apart from many other weapons is its shield, which can provide its user good temporary protection whenever strafing is not an option, such as in a narrow passage or on the Tower:[1]
    • If an Undercover Sorella Brella's shield is either damaged or destroyed, it can be restored by either splatting or assisting in splatting an opponent or, if the shield is destroyed, by waiting 270 frames, or 4 seconds.

How to counter the weaknesses as the user

How to strengthen shield

The Undercover Brella recovers health when closed, and mid fight there are several opportunities to close the canopy. These include:

  • When the opponent's weapon is too slow to splat you in the closing window. This applies to weapons like the Heavy Splatling, or anybody with bad aim.
  • When the opponent refills their ink or stops to swim. Keep aim on their swim form, and start opening the canopy when predicted that the enemy will come up.
  • When the enemy throws a bomb, this is the most important skill to learn, as bombs shred the canopy. But backing away to a safe distance and reopening the canopy will save the canopy and the player from damage. Bomb throwing takes long enough to close and reopen shield.

How to jump camp and deal damage

Place an Ink Mine at the Super Jump location, either land two shots, or bump the landing foe with the canopy and land a single shot. Either method will deal over 100 damage. Ink Mines are vital, bait opponents and try and stage fights near to ink mines. Reefslider can be used to finish off opponents that have one shot of health off, that flee due to this weapon's low dps, as the long damage range adds up to over 100%.

How to position

Favor positions near cover, as places to heal shield at. Regularly paint over escape routes during combat.

How to 2v1

Focus on the opponent with the least health, or on lining up opponents. If opponents are already lined up, try to hit both with the same shots.

Synergy

Undercover Brellas like to play with weapons that have Burst Bombs or Torpedoes and use them more often, or Undercover Brellas also play with weapons like Bamboozler 14 Mk I or Sloshing Machine because the shot from the Undercover Brella in their shots or bombs combo, you can also Undercover Brella play as paint support in many comps.

Countermeasures

Gear abilities

Gear abilities provide different effects in battle that benefit the player with their equipped weapon. This is a guide to gear abilities in relation to the weapon. Strategy, synergy, viability, and purpose may be written here.

Ink Saver (Main)

Mid combat keeping your shield open costs ink in the sense that you need to fire to keep it up. So even in defensive positions, you need main saver.

Ink Resistance

This weapons is bad at painting its feet.

Sub Saver

Ink Mine spam.

Run Speed Up

Useful for when the shield is dropped, as the player's speed bounces up and down due to firing speed being slower than base running speed. Tap the button to get the benefits of this bounce.

In competitive play

The Undercover Brella is commonly seen as one of the worst weapons in the game and is therefore very rarely seen.
