Trick vs. Treat, also known as Splatoween, was a Splatfest event in Splatoon 2. It was held for all regions from 30 October 2020 to 1 November 2020. It was announced on social networks on 9 October 2020 and in-game on 16 October 2020. It is a rematch of the original Trick vs. Treat Splatfest theme from October 2018.

Details

On the 21st of July 2020, the 3rd anniversary of Splatoon 2's release, along with the announcement of the Mayo vs. Ketchup rematch, the Japanese Splatoon Twitter announced that three additional Splatfests were planned to be held before the end of the year.

This was the first "rerun" Splatfest to feature a theme that originally premiered during the Clout Era.

Continuing from Chicken vs. Egg (2020), the increased 100× Battle rates that were originally advertised for Chaos vs. Order were still in effect for this Splatfest.

Most changes that were unique to the first iteration of this Splatfest are present here as well:

• The in-game logo showed "Splatoween" instead of "Splatoon 2".
  • Unlike the original event, the start screen lacked the unique sound that plays after pressing and , resulting in a brief silence before Pearl and Marina give the news.
  • The news had the daytime images for the stages rather than the nighttime.
• Inkopolis Square had additional glow-in-the-dark decorations in the shapes of manta rays, starfish, and glowing ooze.
• The various stages had decorative glowing stickers, graffiti, and other unique decorations.
  • Existing graffiti was modified, mainly by depicting characters as ghost, zombie or mummified versions of themselves.
  • There was also brand-new graffiti, such as a bony spider-like creature, skeletal sharks, and squid and octopus-shaped ghouls.
• The full moon from the Retro vs. Modern and Tsubuan vs. Koshian Splatfests appeared in the sky.
• The edges of ink splatters on the floor, on walls and on the map, as well as stage objects such as sponges pulsated in a brighter color, appearing to glow in the dark.
• In the opening scene for a match, the screen showed a vintage film-grain filter with ghost-like squids flying upwards.
• A special news article in the Nintendo Switch news rewarded players with four unique pieces of headgear, similar to the distribution of the Final Fest gear. All of the gear glows or lights up in the dark:
  • Kyonshi Hat (a reference to the Japanese name of Jiang Shi, or Chinese vampires)
  • Li'l Devil Horns
  • Hockey Mask (a reference to the killer Jason from the Friday the 13th franchise)
  • Anglerfish Mask

• Pearl and Marina swapped color schemes (with Pearl's outfit being mainly black and Marina's being mainly white).

The full name of each choice was "TRICK" and "TREAT". The team name portion of Splatfest titles was "Trick" and "Treat".

Trick vs. Treat features the fifteenth Shifty Station layout, Railway Chillin'.

• Marina's confusion at Chaos vs. Order not being the final Splatfest in Super Mushroom vs. Super Star suggests that this and the other two rematch Splatfests are considered non-canonical. This is further backed up with how Chaos vs. Order was described as the previous Splatfest in the Japanese dialog, despite the three Splatfests in between.
