The N-ZAP '89 is a main weapon in Splatoon and Splatoon 2. It is a N-ZAP '85 with a different color scheme and a different sub and special weapon. It is modeled after the NES Zapper after it was colored pink due to a law requiring that toy guns were not allowed to have a black tip or exterior. It has the number 89 because this ban was imposed in 1989.
