A promotional image for Splatoon 3 featuring an Inkling wielding the Splat Dualies, a weapon in the Dualie class.

Dualies are one of the main weapon classes in the Splatoon series.

Dualies are dual-wielded guns similar to shooters that fire small blobs of ink in quick succession. They have the unique capability to perform a dodge roll move with a burst of ink.

Dualies were first introduced in Splatoon 2.

General mechanics

Dualies fire alternately from each gun. Each gun fires at two separate crosshairs on the screen, giving them lower accuracy.

They are also capable of dodge rolling by using while moving and firing at the same time. After a roll is completed, the player holds the dualies together, and the crosshairs converge into a single one with higher accuracy and increased fire rate. This state lasts until the player moves or stops firing. After a dodge roll, the player cannot move for a brief amount of time, though they can dodge roll again up to a maximum amount of successive rolls, which is 2 for most dualies. Dodge rolls consume ink and leave a splatter of ink on the ground, and are also capable of quickly propelling the player downwards when performed in midair. Their other properties vary depending on the pair of dualies in use.

List of dualies

Note: The series are arranged by their respective order in the weapon select screen with the Main filter.

Series Description Variants Games

Dapple Dualies
Lightweight dualies that have quick dodge rolls, a high fire rate, and middling damage. However, they have poor range, and their dodge rolls only cover a short distance. Dapple Dualies
Dapple Dualies Nouveau
Clear Dapple Dualies

Splat Dualies
The first available pair of dualies in the Splatoon series. They feature balanced performance, having a high fire rate to compensate for the low damage typical of the class. Splat Dualies
Enperry Splat Dualies
Kensa Splat Dualies
Hero Dualie Replicas
Order Dualie Replicas

Glooga Dualies
A mid-range, mid-damage pair of dualies with a low fire rate. Their dodge rolls are slow, but shot damage and range increase after a dodge roll instead of fire rate, allowing it to splat opponents with one fewer shot at greater distances. Glooga Dualies
Glooga Dualies Deco
Kensa Glooga Dualies

Dualie Squelchers
A long-range pair of dualies with unique dodge rolls. Its dodge rolls are quick and allow the user to slide instead of being locked in place, but they do not increase the weapon's fire rate. Dualie Squelchers
Custom Dualie Squelchers

Tetra Dualies
These mid-range dualies put a significant emphasis on mobility. They allow up to four consecutive dodge rolls instead of the normal two, and can also shoot while rolling. Dark Tetra Dualies
Light Tetra Dualies

Douser Dualies FF
A long-range pair of Dualies that can only perform one dodge roll. After rolling, the weapon's range decreases, and its fire rate increases drastically. Douser Dualies FF

Special Dualies

The following pair(s) of dualies are only available outside of battles as part of other modes:

Weapon Description Games

Hero Dualies
A pair of dualies similar to the Splat Dualies only used in Octo Canyon. Upon completion of all missions in Octo Canyon using the Hero Dualies, the player will unlock the Hero Dualie Replicas for use in battles.

Grizzco Dualies
A modified rare weapon based on the Splat Dualies, only available in Salmon Run Next Wave. Their stats are akin to the Dapple Dualies, but their range increases when fired after a dodge roll. Additionally, their dodge rolls create a highly-damaging explosion around the player, and they have the greatest ability for successive dodge rolling of any pair of dualies, being capable of up to 9 rolls in a row.

Order Dualies
A pair of dualies similar to the Splat Dualies only used in Side Order when equipping Pearl's Palette. Upon successful completion of a run with this Palette equipped, the player will unlock the Order Dualie Replicas for use in battles.

Animations

Splatoon 2

Spawning in before a match starts:

  • Both Inklings and Octolings twirl both dualies on their fingers and strike a pose after they shake off their excess ink.

Victory:

  • Inkling Girl: Jumps up then backflips twice before posing with both dualies pointed towards the ground.
  • Inkling Boy: Jumps up while swinging their arms before doing a side flip, then proceeds to twirl each dualie on their fingers before striking a pose and winking.
  • Octoling Girl: Does a double backflip and some quick aims with her dualies before striking a pose and winking.
  • Octoling Boy: Similar to Octoling Girl, except pose is different and does not wink.

Defeat:

  • Inklings: Holds their head in disappointment before thrusting their arms downwards, proceeding to twirl their right dualie on their finger.
  • Octoling Girl: Holds their head in disappointment before crossing their arms, occasionally tapping their toes.
  • Octoling Boy: Similar to Octoling Girl, except they rest their left dualie on their shoulder instead of crossing their arms.

In Ammo Knights (Clicking ):

  • Inklings: Twirl left dualie on their finger before doing some quick aiming, transitioning into the idle animation.
  • Octolings: Looks at the right dualie and then the left before twirling each dualie on alternating fingers, transitioning into the idle animation.

Splatoon 3

Spawner pose:

  • All styles: They stay in a crouched position with their dualies pointing upwards.

Victory:

  • Flip Out and Reppin' Inkopolis[1]: Backflips and shoots the weapons right then left in midair. They then land, crouching and spinning the weapons with their fingers.

In Ammo Knights (Clicking ):

  • Inklings: The player will look at their left dualie and then the right, spinning the right one with one finger and spinning the left one at the same time shortly after, moving their torso to their right and doing a couple quick aims, looking at their right dualie and nodding.
  • Octolings: The player will throw their right and left dualie in the air, catching both at the same time before doing a couple poses, spinning their dualies and nodding at their left one afterwards.

Quotes

Squid Research Lab Ballistics here, back from vacation with a report on dualie-type weapons! These classic dual-wield inkers allow you to press to perform a Dodge Roll while shooting. It's a smart tactical move, and our intern assures me that it "makes you look like a boss."

Trivia

  • The dualies' losing animation was changed from the Splatoon 2 Global Testfire version to the official release. The Global Testfire had the Inkling swing the dualies down while looking at them annoyed (if a boy) or looking off annoyed (if a girl); the official release has both of the Inkling genders swing them down and spin one of them around their finger disappointingly, and Octolings have them fold their arms while holding one in their hands.
  • The only dualies to be redesigned in Splatoon 3 are the Custom Dualie Squelchers, as the tips of both guns are yellow instead of black.
  • After performing a dodge roll, as long as the player does not move, their character will be aiming with one eye closed. Most Dualies will close their right eye, but the Dualie Squelchers and it's variants close their left eye instead.
  • If a fist-bump is initiated and at least one of the players is wielding dualies, they will toss the dualie on the respective side up in the air and catch it when the fist-bump animation ends.
