Roller

Rollers are one of the main weapon classifications in the Splatoon series. Rollers easily spread ink over a wide area around the user, making it an ideal weapon for inking on the go. For most rollers, running into enemies will instantly splat them, changing the splat cam message from "splatted" to "squished" (Splatoon) or "crushed" (Splatoon 2). For attacking enemies out of melee range, rollers also have a mid-range ink-flinging attack. From Splatoon 2, all rollers have a vertical swing attack that can be used by attacking after jumping. These are used to splat opponents at longer ranges and to cover the ground with a long and narrow path of ink instead of the usual short and wide splash.

With the Inkling Boy amiibo, the player can use a Roller for Octo Valley missions.

Carbon Roller
A light and mobile roller. Users can push it along the ground at a fast pace thanks to its lightweight design. It has an extremely fast flick that can splat opponents in one hit. However, it is lacking in range, and it is unable to crush opponents in one hit. Carbon Roller Template:Ya Template:Ya Template:Ya

Splat Roller
The standard roller. It has decent range and mobility. Splat Roller Template:Ya Template:Ya Template:Ya

Dynamo Roller
A heavy roller. It can throw ink farther than all the other rollers, but it impairs mobility and takes a while to wind up before every flick. Dynamo Roller Template:Ya Template:Ya Template:Ya

Flingza Roller
A roller that changes shape when performing a vertical swing. It moves and flings horizontally in a manner similar to the Splat Roller, while its vertical swings are slow and heavy like a Dynamo Roller. Flingza Roller Template:Ya Template:Ya

Brush

Inkbrush
A fast but short-ranged brush. When pushed along the ground, the user moves at extremely high speed, and leaves behind a narrow trail of ink. Damage is low, as the user needs to land four globs of ink to splat an opponent. Inkbrush Template:Ya Template:Ya Template:Ya
Inkbrush Nouveau Template:Ya Template:Ya
Permanent Inkbrush Template:Ya Template:Ya

Octobrush
A slower brush with decent range. Movement speed while pushing it along the ground is a bit slower compared to the Inkbrush. Only three hits are needed to splat an opponent. Octobrush Template:Ya Template:Ya Template:Ya

Squid Research Lab here, rolling out a report on rollers! These versatile weapons can lay down a wide path of ink on the ground or fling it forward for a more traditional attack. Warning: do NOT paint your apartment with one. (A "friend" lost their security deposit that way.)

Squid Research Lab here, ready to brush up on brushes! Hold ZR while using a brush to sprint at a tremendous speed and lay down a tactical ribbon of ink. You can also use rapid-fire brush swings to turn an opponent's face into the kind of abstract art that's worth millions!

Trivia

Glowing ink flung from a roller.
  • Ink flung from any roller will glow before it lands. This is often difficult to see, however, due to bright lighting in some areas and the small amount of time for which the ink is in the air.
  • There are no rollers with Point Sensor, Toxic Mist, Fizzy Bomb, or Disruptor as their sub weapon.
  • In Splatoon, the Carbon Roller Deco has a unique special weapon, the Seeker Bomb Rush.
    • However, no main weapon in Splatoon 2 has a unique special weapon.
  • In the corner of the Shooting Range are some parts for a roller, most likely a Splat Roller.
  • Due to the large size of rollers, parts of them will sometimes go through walls as they are being pushed.
  • Rollers are not affected by Run Speed Up when they are rolling.
    • However, the effect is active while running, flicking or doing both at the same time.
  • All rollers in the Octobrush and Inkbrush series (except for the Inkbrush Nouveau), as well as the CoroCoro Splat Roller, are the only roller-class weapons that have not been nerfed as of April 2020.
  • According to Sheldon, rollers began as unofficial weapons but were eventually made official due to their popularity.
  • Against Salmonid, Inkbrushes have more DPS (Damage Per Second) when rolling while Octobrushes have more DPS when ink-flinging.
