The Octoshot Replica was released on 5 August 2015. The Octoshot Replica is based on the Octoshots used by Octolings, looking like a sleeker, more metallic version of the Splattershot.

It cannot be purchased and only obtained as an award from Judd for reaching Level 40. The Octoshot Replica's stats, sub weapon, and special weapon are identical to those of the Tentatek Splattershot. It generally has middling stats with no particular strengths or weaknesses. It comes with Suction Bombs and the Inkzooka. It was introduced in Version 2.0.0 with the addition of Judd's rewards.

Use

  • The Octo Shot Replica is a slayer's weapon, designed to splat an opponent in as few as three hits with its rapid firing, good accuracy, and short to medium range.
    • Offensively, its good mobility allows its user to force the action and apply pressure onto the opponent, eliminating key defenders during a push.
    • Defensively, its rapid rate of fire makes it great at both sharking to pick off unaware opponents and turfing to maintain map control. Its good overall ink efficiency also allows its user to more readily use Splat Bombs to keep opponents at bay.
    • Comeback, Quick Respawn, and Stealth Jump are abilities that allow a slayer to play more aggressively.
    • Main Power Up can further increase its accuracy, particularly while jumping, preserving more accuracy while jump strafing.
  • The Octo Shot Replica is faster and more efficient at turfing than most other slayer's weapons, allowing its user to maintain map control more easily.
  • A Splat Bomb detonates one second after touching a surface – more quickly than a Suction Bomb does (in two seconds), but cannot attach to surfaces and, thus, requires more precise aim when thrown. It is a versatile sub weapon with a variety of purposes suited for any slayer:
    • Pushing into a Splat Zone or any other important area of the stage.
    • Flushing out opposing anchors from perches, hindering their ability to control space with their range.
    • Providing space to escape, whether via both swimming and running or via super jumping.
  • If piloted properly, the Inkjet can pressure opponents – particularly anchors – more directly than most other slayer's special weapons, such as Tenta Missiles, without committing too far forward:
    • Upon activation, its launching point is marked for all players – teammates and opponents – to see and, as of Version 3.2.0, also indicates when its user will return via super jump, allowing an opponent to camp or shark there. Therefore, it is advised to launch the Inkjet from a less visible and better protected area.
      • Drop Roller allows its user to better dodge either a potential Inkjet punish or a simple super jump punish, providing a safer landing.
      • Specials are also free ink reloads, allowing the Octo Shot Replica user to drop a Splat Bomb upon landing after the special ends.
    • Its movement speed is determined by both the Octo Shot Replica's strafing speed and the number of Run Speed Up ability points equipped.
    • Its altitude depends on the elevation of the surface it is hovering above, enabling it to either fly very high over an elevated structure, such as the glass roof in Shellendorf Institute, or hover high enough to challenge an opponent on a perch.
      • However, the Inkjet cannot achieve thrust off of grates or mesh, causing its pilot to merely walk on them. Avoid hovering over them to maintain altitude.
      • Pressing the Button1 B.png button will provide a temporary extra thrust, while morphing into squid/octopus form will halt the jets to enable the pilot to descend. Mastery of these maneuvers is necessary for Inkjet pilots to become less predictable for long-ranged opponents to track and pick off.
    • Its mobility enables it to reach areas that are otherwise not easily accessible — or even inaccessible, such as over the glass enclosures in Kelp Dome.
    • The Inkjet's cannon fires long-ranged, Rainmaker-like bursts of ink that splat opponents in one direct hit or two to four indirect hits:
      • Lead the Inkjet's shots to compensate for their slightly slower travel speed, especially when positioned farther from an intended target.
      • Its splash damage can splat opponents positioned behind obstacles, varying from 30 to 50 damage; the closer the shot to the opponent, the more damaging.
    • If an Inkjet falls out of bounds, such as into the water, its pilot will land back onto the location of launch — or the most previous point of solid ground. Therefore, the Inkjet can save a player from an out-of-bounds splat in a pinch.

Countermeasures

  • Matchups between Octo Shot Replicas on opposing teams are determined by each player's skill, positioning, turf control, and the presence of any teammates.
  • Any weapon that has a combination of longer range, better accuracy, or higher damage output without sacrificing too much mobility can counter an Octo Shot. For example, both the Splattershot Pro and L-3 Nozzlenose and their respective variants meet all of these requirements.
  • A long-ranged weapon, such as a charger or most splatlings, can not only attack an Octo Shot from long distance with impunity but also punish a predictable Inkjet. However, once the Octo Shot gets close, the tables are turned, as it can outmaneuver and outdraw its less mobile, slower firing opponent.
  • When pursued by an Octo Shot, using almost any sub weapon (except for Squid Beakons) can either delay their pursuit or deter them from chasing. Weapons that track opponents, such as Point Sensors, temporarily prevent them from sharking and makes them an easier target for long-ranged teammates.
  • To prevent sharking, keep track of all four members of the opposing team - which ones are still active, which ones are splatted, and which ones Super Jumped back to their spawn point - and turf suspicious puddles of the opponents' ink, preferably with a sub weapon.
  • When pursuing an Octo Shot Replica, be wary of any Splat Bombs they might plant while retreating, such as around a corner or after climbing a ledge.
  • To punish an opposing Inkjet after it lands, eliminate its pilot's teammates while avoiding both its shots and exhaust before punishing the landing, preferably with a well-placed, well-timed bomb followed by shots from the main weapon. Make sure the opposing pilot does not have Drop Roll however.

Data

  • The Octo Shot Replica is a middleweight weapon.
  • The ink consumption of 0.92% allows players to fire 108 shots before needing to refill the ink supply.
  • When initially firing the weapon in humanoid form, the first shot takes 3 frames to come out.
    • When firing from squid or octopus form, the first shot takes 8 frames to come out.
  • When firing continuously, it has a fire rate of 6 frames between shots.
  • When firing while moving, the player's movement speed is set to 0.72 units per frame.
  • After firing, there is a 20 frame cooldown before the ink tank starts refilling.
  • If a shot is in the air for more than 8 frames after being fired, it loses 1.09 damage per frame until it reaches 17.5 damage at frame 24.
  • Shots have a radius of 2 units.
  • The angle its shots can deviate while on the ground is 6 degrees.
  • The angle its shots can deviate while in the air is 12 degrees.
  • The outer reticle immediately expands after jumping. After 25 frames, the outer reticle will start shrinking, and will finish shrinking after 70 frames.
  • The Octo Shot Replica starts off having a 1% chance to shoot towards the outer reticle instead of the inner reticle.
    • This chance increases by 1% per shot, and maximizes at a 25% chance to shoot towards the outer reticle. Meaning that it takes 24 shots to reach minimum accuracy.
  • When jumping, the chance to shoot towards the outer reticle instead of the inner reticle is immediately set to 40%.
  • When not shooting, the chance to shoot towards the outer reticle decreases by 0.5% per frame, if the chance is not already at the minimum. Meaning that it takes 48 frames to reach maximum accuracy. (78 after shooting while jumping.)
  • Shots initially travel at a rate of 22 units per frame for 4 frames, having an effective range of 88 units.
    • After that, the shot's velocity is set to 14.495 units if it is not already lower than the listed value, and decreases further as it falls to the ground.
  • Ink droplets occur every 92 units.
  • The frequency at which ink drips from a shot occurs at a rate of 1.5 droplets per shot.
  • There are a total of 6 different droplet patterns that can be created while firing this weapon.
  • Droplets that occur within 11 units of the player have a radius of 18 units, and a width of 12 units.
    • These droplets have their radius multiplied by a value ranging from 1.2 if they fell from a height above 100 units to 1.4 if they fell from a height below 30 units.
  • Droplets that occur when they travel past 200 units of the player have a radius of 16 units.
  • All other ink droplets have a radius of 12.8 units.
  • Droplets that are far from the player and all other droplets have their radius multiplied by a value ranging from 1 if they fell from a height above 100 units to 1.2 if they fell from a height below 30 units.
